Africa is messed up because of colonialism...we send aid but it doesn't seem to do much for the overall good?

how can we help africa become a developed world? can I do anything? i just feel bad about massive poverty and poor health/short life spans. India has a chance to move up to second world with its technology, but it's gotta work on its treatment of girls and overpopulation. maybe i'm wrong, but i think it should be a human right to have water, shelter, food, and a chance at an education....and i'm willing to pay taxes for that too. but the money always seems to get diverted into a few pocketbooks.
